Tell us about yourself and what you do in your daily role?

Andy: I am a lead consultant at Avalon Consulting LLC, specializing in the Hadoop Ecosystem as well as NoSQL systems. My days transition between consulting for our clients on Big Data projects, and integrating Couchbase with a myriad of systems such Elasticsearch, Spark, Kafka, and others.

Where are you based and what do you like to do in your spare time?

Andy: Based in Austin, Texas. My free time is dominated by my family. Playing with my son who is in some very formative years (almost 2), and binge-watching TV shows like “Breaking Bad,” “Once Upon a Time,” and “The Walking Dead,” with my wife.

What made you choose Couchbase?

Andy: NoSQL, in general, is a really fascinating branch of technology. When comparing different databases, I found Couchbase to be extremely usable and easy to wrap my head around.

What have you accomplished using Couchbase?

Andy: My work with Couchbase has really served to define what role a NoSQL database can play in larger systems.

What one feature of Couchbase do you use and what should people know about it?

Andy: I’m sure people know about the Java API for Couchbase. But what people may not realize is the API is extremely easy to use compared to other NoSQL systems. You also are not confined to Java; Couchbase has done a great job to create connection points in a lot of common languages.

If you could have three wishes for Couchbase what would they be?

Andy: Just one at the moment: Perfect the full text search engine in Couchbase.

What is your favorite book or author, and why?

Andy: I’m actually an avid reader; I could talk your ear off on this subject. My favorite author(s) would have to be Isaac Asimov (pretty much defined how we think about science fiction today) and Stephen King my favorite epic horror writer.
