Couchbase is pleased to be included by Gartner on the 2021 Magic Quadrant for Cloud Database Management Systems. We feel that being recognized in this report validates not only the value that Couchbase has been bringing to customers for over a decade, but also value for developers who are using Couchbase Capella in that it is as easy as SQL, flexible and agile during development, and blazingly fast in deployment.

What inclusion in the Gartner Magic Quadrant means to Couchbase

We are excited to be one of the twenty database vendors to be included in the report, having met many of the critical capabilities that customers seek from modern database systems. We believe that our broad multimodel support, which fuses the trusted capabilities of relational databases with the flexibility, performance and scale of modern nonrelational systems is a sustainable differentiator. We also feel that modern applications will need our mobile and edge capabilities. And we are grateful to our enthusiastic developer community as they embrace Couchbase Capella, and test drive our database in the Couchbase playground.

But we are most excited by the feedback and competitive perspectives that were relayed from Gartner Peer Insights. Helping our customers succeed is what motivates us every day. Our customers are using Couchbase Capella’s in-memory processing to bolster performance of aging systems, accelerate development cycles through the flexibility of JSON, and building new mobile and edge applications all while lowering their operational and ownership costs.

Responding to Market Demands

Couchbase has had a busy calendar 2021:

  • Launched Couchbase Server 7 with new capabilities that made mapping relational concepts into our multimodel database much easier.
  • Rebranded our database as a service (DBaaS) to Couchbase Capella, including a new free trial for developers (try it here!)
  • Held our worldwide developer conference, Couchbase ConnectONLINE, that featured over 100 sessions with more than 30 that included customers.

We have our foot on the gas and are always innovating to respond to where the CDBMS market is headed. As an example, we constantly work with our enterprise customers to meet their ever-growing demands for automation, cloud flexibility and global scalability. We know that the demand for real-time, hybrid operational and analytic workloads are increasing, and we are investing in our analytics service to meet those expectations.
