We are excited to be part of the Red Hat announcement of OpenShift Container Platform 3.11 version. In this release, Red Hat is extending application Operator capabilities to OpenShift in a Developer Preview capacity, allowing customers to take advantage of the Couchbase Autonomous Operator as a result..

We were one of the early partners who implemented Operator SDK, which was announced earlier this year. The Operator Framework project was announced by Red Hat and was demonstrated live on stage at the 2018 Red Hat Summit Day 1 Keynote.

Couchbase Autonomous Operator 1.0 has been generally available since September and is among the first OpenShift Operators to be delivered on Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform 3.10. In the new OpenShift 3.11 cluster console under left navigation, you will find Operator Lifecycle Manager that will host Red Hat’s built-in Operators – Prometheus, etcd and AMQ Streams and along with that Operators built by partners such as Couchbase. These Operators are still in Developer Preview, giving OpenShift and Couchbase users a chance to test out using the products together.

With Couchbase, OpenShift 3.11 and the Tech Preview of the Operator Lifecycle Manager, deploying a new cluster on OpenShift is significantly easier.

Rob Szumski, who is a product manager for OpenShift at Red Hat, and Mike Wiederhold, Engineering Manager at Couchbase, did an excellent presentation at Couchbase Connect SV 2018 to showcase Couchbase Autonomous Operator running on OpenShift Container Platform 3.11 using Operator Lifecycle Manager.
