I just started as a Developer Advocate, focusing on Mobile at Couchbase, so let me use the opportunity to introduce myself. I am based in Ann Arbor, Michigan, ranked as one of the top college towns in the US.
I’ve been professionally developing & architecting software for a very long time now. I spent the first decade or so of my career in Research working on future technologies that would eventually make its way into the products. During that time, I’ve had the opportunity to work on some very cool projects around x86 Platform security, Detecting & Thwarting Network Security Attacks, Platform Management, Virtualization, IPTV, Social TV, Targeted Advertising among others. For a period in my career, I was also a ETSI TISPAN standards delegate where I co-authored the IPTV architectural specifications.
I am a co-inventor on almost 2 dozen patents spanning various technologies.
Over the past several years, I have been focused on Mobile Development and iOS is my platform of choice. Before Couchbase, I was the Director of Mobile Development at a startup, managing the SDLC of mobile apps. So it’s been quite a journey, from building low level embedded device software with a command line interface to mobile apps with a pretty UI!
While I’ve enjoyed building software, I’ve equally enjoyed the community side of things – blogging, speaking, organizing user groups, mentoring. So I’m really excited about my new role at Couchbase – I think it’s the best of both worlds! I haven’t really worked extensively on Database technologies, so I’m going to be learning a lot of new stuff. I believe that Couchbase Server and Couchbase Mobile is poised to have a significant impact in the Mobile/ IoT space where there is an explosion of massively scalable, responsive applications. I can’t wait to help spread the word.
On the personal side, I enjoy spending time with my family and watching movies. And of course, if it’s Fall, it’s college football- M Go Blue!
