The "Simple, Fast and Elastic" theme seems to be resonating very well with developers as I have visited more Java User Groups (JUGs) in the last few weeks than in the last few years. There is something to be said about the positive energy and unabashed (and honest) feedback that you tend to receive from the creme-de-la-creme of developers and users who tend to attend these community organized events.
As a small company, there is no bandwidth to simply reach out to these myriad of very useful and self organizing events where the food is good, the after party is great, and the discussions are priceless. It would be great for Couchbase to be at all these events, but, it's simply not possible. Even big companies, Oracle, Microsoft, etc. support their User Groups often with a dedicated team since they provide a sounding board for new ideas and provide extremely valuable feedback. The Java champion, Microsoft MVP program and so on is drawn from these community of participants or organizers. These champions are in effect an unbiased ambassador to these technologies and products for these companies.
Couchbase is also embarking on a similar idea. More details will be forthcoming, but, if you are interested in participating and have feedback of any kind regarding the program, please feel free to comment away or send me mail directly - rags at couchbase.com.
