More Couchbase and Java with Views, Hadoop and Mobility

I spoke at the London JUG and was probably over ambitious in trying to include our recent work on Views, Hadoop Connector and the Android Grocery Sync application in a single presentation besides demoing the "simple, fast and elastic" theme that Couchbase and the client libraries support.

How Couchbase helped OMGPOP break all the records with Draw Something

Every now and then you get the opportunity to prove yourself on a big stage. Four weeks ago we got the chance. Couchbase user, OMGPOP, had launched Draw Something – a Pictionary-like game that was going viral. Capitalizing on what would end up being an unprecedented growth opportunity, they absolutely had to scale their database. There were two non-negotiables: performance had to be sustained and the game could never be taken off line, even as the number of users and games rapidly accelerated.

Couchbase at PyCon

You've probably seen those ubiquitous bumper stickers that state a driver's "other car is a ..." where "..." is some other form of transport that isn't a car.  If my laptop were to be accessorized with such a sticker, it would read "My other language is Python."  That's why when this .NET guy was asked to attend PyCon, I jumped at the chance.

Strata Conference

I attended the Strata Conference last week and although I did not catch the talks, the buzz was definitely in the air on the show floor.    "Machine Learning," "I am  a Data Scientist" and "we are showing off a Hadoop connector" seemed like the most common pick up lines. Our Helicopter giveaways was amongst the most popular. I Wish I had one of them, but, as a Couchbase employee I was not eligible.
